See below some of the most frequently asked questions on our myhomefone Home Phone plans.
myhomefone™ is a cordless home phone that runs on the 4G network. No landline or nbn™ connection is needed. myhomefone™ is the phone for people who don’t want nbn™ at home or need a back-up phone that works regardless of the availability of nbn™.
Yes you can. myhomefone™ is a home phone that runs on the 4G mobile networks. As long as your home has the service provider’s network coverage, your myhomefone™ will work like any other home phone. We use either Telstra or Optus SIM cards (depending on your coverage and requirements). Check coverage at your home to help choose the right option.
Because myhomefone™ runs on the mobile network via a SIM card installed in the base, there is no installation necessary. Simply plug your phone into a power point and turn it on using the ON/OFF switch at the back of the base, and it will bring the network up within 60 seconds, ready to make and receive calls.
If you are transferring an existing landline number from another provider, the transfer take up to 14 business days depending on your current provider, but your myhomefone™ will be up and running on it’s own SIM card and mobile number when you receive it.
Yes you can, provided that number is still on an active service with your current provider. Simply call our service centre, supply the account details for your existing home phone number and we will do the rest. Note: transferring your old home phone number to myhomefone™ can take up to 14 business days depending on your current provider.
The service does run a little differently to your traditional landline. Once your number has been transferred across, we place it on permanent diversion to the SIM card in our phone, so everyone that knows your number can keep calling it. When you dial out from a myhomefone unit, the Caller ID will be the mobile number from the SIM card. Unfortunately there is no way around this, we can make the number private if you so wish, but it is as simple as letting everyone know that the mobile number will show up on their phone from now on when you are calling them.
Note: do not cancel the account with your current provider before the phone number has transferred to myhomefone. Cancelled numbers cannot be transferred and must be reactivated with the current provider before they can be transferred to myhomefone. This can induce unnecessary fees and waiting periods depending on the provider.
Transferring your existing home phone number to myhomefone does not guarantee closure of your account with your current provider, and may impact other services you have with them.
If your phone number is tied to an internet service that you wish to continue with your current provider, check with them first to see how porting the home phone number may impact any other active services.
Once your number has transferred across to myhomefone, it’s always a good idea to call your old provider to close the account if you wish to do so, and to make sure that any direct debits are stopped.
Note: do not cancel the account with your current provider before the phone number has transferred to myhomefone. Cancelled numbers cannot be transferred and must be reactivated with the current provider before they can be transferred to myhomefone. This can induce unnecessary fees and waiting periods depending on the provider.
Yes. myhomefone will come with its own mobile number, but if you would also like a new landline number for family or friends to ring, we can arrange a new number to be generated for you. This will be charged as a one-off fee of $24.95.
